Fishing for Christmas Dinner

This family was out fishing for Ulua (big Jacks) that run along the Makapu'u coast for Christmas dinner. I didn't notice them in the picture at first but when I zoomed in to the scenic shot, there they were! It's amazing how pictures reveal details that we might otherwise miss.

Sand Bass!

Fishermen with Sand Bass. Some guys out fishing in San Diego Bay with a Sand Bass they caught. Supposedly, the water in the bay's been polluted by the shipyard and the Navy base so it's not so clear that eating anything out of the Bay is a good idea but they were having a good time and they probably aren't getting a substantial part of their diet out of the bay.

How Did You Spend Your Memorial Day?

These guys were out fishing. I snapped this picture partly because of that odd contraption (bilge pump maybe?) pumping water out of the boat into the channel. I've never seen anything like it. If it really was a bilge pump, I tend to doubt the safety of hanging out in a rusty old boat with a sizeable leak (based on the amount of water being pumped). On the other hand, maybe it was something more novel such as fish scented water to attract hungy fish to their lines... No idea.

I, of course, was taking pictures of birds in the preserve and working in the yard. Mom was off putting flowers on graves back home. Meanwhile, based on how packed the beaches were, a large part of San Diego was on the water enjoying the sun!

Avoiding the Heat

The weather's turning hot. It was over 100F in some areas today. Many people head to the ocean to bask in the cool ocean breeze rather than suffer in the heat or suffer the electric bill. This fisherman was enjoying the breezes at San Diego Bay. I ended up at the movie theater, partly for the air conditioning, and when things cooled off a tad, fixed the sprinkler manifold. I called a sprinker company a few weeks ago and they wanted $75 just to look at it. Highway robbery for something I could have easily described over the phone. So, I ran over to Home Depot with the old manifold in hand and spent the afternoon with glue and pipe cutters in hand. If all goes well, the sprinkler system will be working again tomorrow. Over all, a reasonably productive day.
