Cattle Egret, Bubulcus ibis, stealing a chick, Parc Ornithologique, France. I had the camera focused on a little patch of ground out of a blind when this egret dashed by with a chick, apparently dead, in his beak. Who would have thought Egrets were cannibalistic?
It's always a little weird to me when birds eat birds, let alone birds of the same species.
ReplyDeleteIt's a little scary/creepy, really. However, it is what it is. I had the lens focused on a red headed gull when all of a sudden this egret dashes out in front of the lens, chick in its mouth, like a burgler with loot in tow...
